In October, Thabo and Rifqah represented ACT Ubumbano in a five-day exchange in Johannesburg that brought together Brot fur die Welt and their African partners who are leading in implementing the Small Project Fund (SPF) in various countries on the continent. The gathering revisited the SPF guidelines, explored success stories and best practices, and committed to stronger collaboration going forward. The organisations present included SLADEA, Tree of Life, DEC (virtual attendee), PELUM Tanzania, and AIDS Foundation South Africa.

The group were hosted by the Benchmarks Foundation on a “toxic tour,” which explored the historical gold mining areas around Johannesburg and the devastating environmental and social legacy it has left behind. The event concluded with a meal at the world-renowned Vilakazi Street in Soweto, the only one globally with two Nobel Peace Prize winners as residents.
