As full members of Act Alliance, ACT Ubumbano was represented by Thabo at a workshop in Zambia on Core Humanitarian Standards and Project Management Cycle on 17-21 April. Thabo joined southern African Act Alliance members from Angola, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe in shared learning on these concepts with members from Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Thabo took advantage of the trip to visit some of ACT Ubumbano’s partners in Zambia. Prisoner’s Future Foundation works with prisoners and with those who have served their sentence by providing care, health supplements and vocational skills to support their reintegration into society Action for Nature works with those resisting the onslaught on livelihoods and the environment in Mpika. ACT Ubumbano was part of the Act Alliance delegation to the United Nations Commission on Population and Development held in New York on 10-14 April 2023. ACT Alliance and its partner faith institutions from Argentina, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Sweden and Norway shared their experiences of implementing gender and SRHR projects in their countries, and added the voice of the faith community in advocating for gender justice on this global platform.

Zanele moderated a session entitled “Between Taboos and Freedom: Religion, Rights and Reproductive Justice”. The session explored further the critical role of  faith leaders and institutions in advancing practices that address injustices facing large sections of our society. Panelists were drawn from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Argentina, the United Nations Population Fund, Act Alliance, Norwegian Church Aid, World Young Women Christian Association, Faith to Action Network, Fòs Feminista, and Act Church of Sweden.

Africa Rising invites you to invite you to participate in the annual Africa Liberation Week organized by Africans Rising. This year’s celebration will take place from May 22nd to May 28th and the broad theme for this year’s celebration is “Borderless Africa”.

As a member of Africans Rising, we would like to encourage you to organize an activity or event to promote the “Borderless Africa” campaign. We believe that Africa should be a continent without borders, where the people and resources are free to move and circulate without hindrance.

We welcome all types of activities, big or small, to promote this campaign. This could include organizing a workshop, hosting a film screening, organizing a panel discussion, or a cultural event. We encourage you to be creative and involve others in your activities.

Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD) is a church membership organization that was registered on 6 May 1997 in Malawi. CARD is a member of ACT-Alliance, a worldwide alliance that promotes under a shared family name the visibility of the development works, humanitarian assistance and advocacy initiatives being undertaken by the alliance. At the time of inception, CARD’s role was to provide emergency relief assistance and rehabilitation support to victims of natural and manmade disasters.

In addition to providing relief and emergency services, CARD implements development programmes in the areas of food security, environmental management, water and sanitation, economic empowerment, good governance and capacity building of communities.

The SEE JUDGE ACT method of social reflection and analysis has been an amazing tool for our Solidarity and Learning Hubs over the years. We had an excellent day on the 14th of March sharing experiences and insights with a group of dynamic animators, activists, facilitators, and just generally committed people from Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The idea is that the methodology – and the philosophy behind it – is shared more widely with those who struggle for dignity and justice. By building a cohort of facilitators from the region, we will be able to convene more localised Hubs where activists can share and connect.

The APN Essay Contest was created to give a platform for African youth perspectives. As we work towards (re)shaping the narratives around African giving, it is imperative that youth voices are centered. Our first APN Essay contest was hosted in 2021 and focused on drawing inspiration from Africa’s youth on the power of African philanthropy in championing social change. The 2nd APN Essay Contest was in 2022, and we focused on the theme “the role of African philanthropy in addressing community challenges”, and received the highest number of entries since the launch of the contest.

The theme for the 3^rd APN Writing Contest is: “African Philanthropy Practice in the age of ongoing Climate Change.”
