Acknowledgements
Acknowledgement I thank ACT UBUMBANO for funding this project for encourages the participation of the affected community and empowers its members to take the leading role in advocating for integration of indigenous knowledge and scientific information in early warning systems as a way to contribute to community resilience to natural hazards. The importance of indigenous knowledge contributes not only to the success of intervention, but more importantly to its sustainability in the longer term. Considering the participation and integration of the communities of Chokwe in all disaster-related processes as a necessary means for pursuing the Hyogo Framework for Action highlights the importance of indigenous knowledge in assisting to mainstream disaster risk reduction policies and practice. Since documenting and assessing indigenous local knowledge (ILK) in the target communities is imperative, this creates a model for an effective community based early warning system that can be scaled up nationally in all of Mozambique. The success of ILK implemented across three communities in Chokwe district in September, 2024 supports my organization to continue implementing measures that are necessary for success of community resilience. EGAN aims to create a blueprint for how to develop an effective community based early warning system that has the potential of enhancing the resilience of the community hence minimizing infrastructural and farm based livelihoods looses. Our emphasis on incorporating the local community and building on what is already on the ground (scientific early warning system) makes this a relatively cost-effective option
