Apostolic Women Empowerment Trust

Vision – Empowered Apostolic women and adolescents’ girls, who participate in social and economic development processes to advance their rights and those of others.

Who We Are

AWET leads in creating dialogue with women of different Apostolic Sects whilst fully cognizant that Apostolic Churches have different beliefs, norms, values and perceptions on key social issues such as early/child marriage, Education, (HIV/AIDS), Maternal Newborn Child Health inclusive of immunization (MNCH), Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights(ASRHR). Born out of the realisation that there was need to create a movement of women and girls who stand up for their rights and for others.

What Drives Us (Purpose & Values)

  1. Apostolic Doctrine & Social Norms: AWET addresses key beliefs, attitudes, and social norms related to modern health services and the rights of women and children.
  2. Awareness & Advocacy: Raises awareness on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH), gender inequality, health and social inequities, and weak child protection policies.
  3. SBCC Development Strategy: Uses Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) to promote behavioral and social changes, dialogue, and advocacy within Apostolic communities.
  4. Behavioral Shift Focus: Encourages changes in behavior, attitudes, and practices of Apostolic members toward health and gender equality.

What We Do (Key Focus Areas)

As AWET, we know the change we want to see and be in the world. Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls across the divide. Our, commitment as AWET is to strive for equality in and through sexual and reproductive health and rights programming. The result will be that: If girls and women are empowered and engaged. WE BELIEVE and live in supportive communities and systems and institutions provide high-quality, gender-equitable sexual and reproductive healthcare and policies, laws, and processes are supportive. If women are empowered, they will be able to protect the child as well. The key to self-efficacy is an all-round support system and empowerment.
